On August 15th of this year, the first contract for the Graduate Employees Organization (GEO) expired. The GEO "is a union representing the 1500+ teaching and graduate assistants employed at the University of Illinois-Chicago." The GEO is responsible for protecting the interests of the teaching and graduate assistants at UIC and making sure they receive the income and the benefits that are listed on their contracts.

The Future of Chicago Lecture Series continued on September 23 with a lecture by Robert Fioretti, the Alderman for the 2nd ward of Chicago. The 2nd ward stretches as far south as Bronzeville, as far northwest as Madison and Sacramento, and as far east as sections of the Loop.
