Finals often bring an air of panic that is hard to shake before the big test day.
With one more week to go, there are some stress-busters that may relax nervous students.
Taking advantage of the new Student Recreation Facility is one way to sweat or swim the stress right out of your body. For example, it is the perfect time to try the lazy river. Floating around may clear thoughts of failing classes or turning in term papers before deadlines.
SRF also offers various yoga, pilates, aerobic and cardio classes. Practicing yoga will especially reduce tension in the body, leading to a balanced mind and spirit. If there is simply not enough time to attend a 45-minute class, then stretching exercises can provide benefits as well.
On the other hand, an intense sweaty workout might be the key for some. Sweating the stress out has been known to have wonderful effects, one of them being a better night's sleep, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Also, research from AAFP also shows brisk walking is one of the best kinds of exercises and burns the same amount of calories as running.
Instead of downing a lot of fatty foods, consider snacking on healthier choices, such as yogurt, a fruit bar, or even a bowl of cereal.
The next answer for ultimate de-stressing techniques is pampering yourself. Sean Patrick's Salon and Spa, located on South Halsted Street, can be the perfect treat before finals. With their full service salon, including hair care, manicures and pedicures, massages, skincare, and body treatments, Sean Patrick's will leave you calm enough to tackle exams. The salon and spa also offers special half price student days, an added bonus. For further information, call (312) 829-6100.
If all these stress-reducing techniques do not work, there is always the tried and true method of retail therapy. With holiday season in full force, a trip to Macy's on State Street can increase positive attitude, and will hopefully translate once it is time to sit down and study or to actually take exams.
If spending money is not in the works, a visit to Millennium Park's ice skating rink may be the perfect way to get some exercise and enjoy a spirited Chicago moment with a friend or two.
Getting out into the city, instead of just sitting around and dwelling on how to start studying, is a good way to rid of procrastination and come back recharged to ace exams.
