Blue Line Cermak branch to close

Effective April 27, the Cermak branch of the CTA Blue Line will shut down due to lower ridership. This branch runs westbound from the Loop to Cicero. While extra service will be added to the Green Line and additional branches of the Blue Line (Forest Park and O'Hare), many CTA riders will still be affected by the change, including those who use the 54/Cermak Line for UIC/Halsted and Racine.


Dorm building under construction in South Loop

The Scion Group LLC, a student housing operator, announced on Thursday that they are going to pay $75 million for a 694-bed dormitory in the South Loop. The dorm building will be open to all college students, regardless of where they attend school. In recent years, independent dormitories have become a popular and lasting investment, according to the Scion Group. The rent is projected to be approximately $1,050 a bed per month.


Convicted gun seller dies after jail fight

Jason Katz, 32, an inmate at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, died after a fight broke out last Wednesday morning. According to authorities, Katz was beaten to death, and pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 6:55 a.m. Katz had been convicted after selling guns to a schizophrenic man who later used them to kill a police officer last April in South Bend, Ind.
