There's a better than one in 200 chance that the next car you see is driven by someone with one or more convictions for driving under the influence. That's according to data obtained by The Associated Press from the Illinois secretary of state's office. The figures are from 20 years of traffic records. They indicate more than 45,000 licensed drivers in Illinois have one or more DUI convictions. More than 3,800 have two and more than 2,700 have three. Under Illinois law, a license is revoked for life with a fourth DUI. The director of Mothers Against Drunk Driving in Illinois is Susan McKeigue, and she says the figures are worrying. But she also notes that two-thirds of alcohol-related deaths are caused by drivers with no previous DUIs.
