Tailor Lofts opening

Located on the corner of Peoria and Jackson in the middle of Greektown is the new Tailor Lofts apartment complex. It is currently undergoing a top to bottom makeover that will retain some of the building's original architectural features. The 126 CTA line has a stop in front of the building which is two blocks down from the UIC-Halsted Blue Line stop on the el, making Tailor Lofts an accessible living spot for students attending any number of Chicago's universities. In total, there are 135 units that come fully furnished with living room couches, a flat screen TV that comes with DVR, and kitchen appliances that include dishwashers. The units, depending on the floor plan will have up to but no more than four tenants who will each have their own bedroom, and the bed is provided.
Though these are loft apartments, all walls meet the ceilings to ensure privacy. Additionally, tenants take on individual leases for their bedroom as opposed to all members of a unit taking on a shared lease.
"We're geared towards students because we do individual leases, but anybody who qualifies can live here," said Elizabeth White, property manager of Tailor Lofts.
Aside from the units themselves, renters at Tailor Lofts will enjoy a number of services such as a 24 hour fitness center, study areas throughout the building, a computer lab complete with printer, a gaming room equipped with a pool table, Nintendo xbox and Wii, and a standup high pressure tanning bed, although the tanning bed's usage will be limited to office hours so a trained staffer can assist.
For the entire Tailor Lofts community there will be wi-fi service available anywhere in the building, 24 hour security at the front desk, and washers and driers on every floor.
Though the majority of interested tenets are college age students, Tailor Lofts is not an extension of any university's campus: "We don't want to run it like a dorm," said White.
Preleasing is going on now and the first date to move in will be August 14th of this year. Towards the end of March, Tailor Lofts will be hosting an event for March Madness where free food and beverage will be provided along with a raffle for prizes. Currently, the Tailor Lofts is offering a special deal on its second and third floor four bedroom three bathroom units for $899 a month, utilities covered by Tailor Lofts.
